I don't think memory is it, unless you told Linux that you have more than you do,...

Do you have SHARED memory with your vid card??? And if so, did you set your Lilo or Grub bootloader that you had the full amount of system memory??? If so you need to account for the amoun that is used by the video system.

Hi,

No i didn't set my Grub bootloader. I just did a simple install and let the O.S. detect the resources for itself. I didn't do any configurations myself

I also didn't do any manual configuration with the video card. During the installation the O.S. detected it automatically.

The memory check at system startup says :

Memory Testing : 253952K OK + 8192K shared

My bios shows :

Graphics aperture size : [128Mb]
Graphics shared memory : [8Mb]

And when i go to : kde control center -> information -> memory it shows :
Total physical memory : 241.62 MB
Free physical memory : 8.88 MB (keeps changing according to system requirement)
Shared memory : 0 bytes

Disk buffers : 11.50 MB
Disk cache : 96.80 MB

Total swap memory : 517.68 MB
Free swap memory : 517.20 MB

Thanx
