Freeciv Addict?

I think I'm going to have to uninstall Freeciv... losing too much sleep...

Yes, that software does seem to have the ability to make the clock go from 6pm to 3am without passing through any of the moments in between. The original was much the same.

I tried it a few times, but have to say that I prefer the originals. All of them, including the Call to Power parts.

Oops... 2am is what I meant.

*rubs bloodshot eyes*

I had to quit. Job and kids kept getting in the way...

Well, the problem is that every time after I get mercilessly pummelled, the next day I wake up with this brilliant new strategy that will win for sure. Only it takes about three hours before I even know whether or not it is working. Tried limiting myself to a half-hour of play per day, but it just wasn't as much fun. So now I won't let myself play any more... just too many things of greater significance to spend my time on.

Sigh... life is so short.

I have to agree. I dont know what part of the originals you like in particular, for me what I dont like about Freeciv is the graphics. IMO Blocky graphics are nice sometimes.

I have the same problem with UFO: Alien Invasion. I'd much rather play the original, even though its blocky and has limited resolution.

Well, I developed Freeciv Greatturn to try remedy the shortcomings of time constrains.

Greatturn is a multiplayer-only branch of Freeciv where matches are organized with about 20/30 players per map, and everybody takes only one turn per day, across a span of 2/3 months, until the match gets finished. With such big maps, there's a lot to do during each turn, and the positive improvement is that players can connect and make their moves at any time of the day, no matter of timezones or real-time synchronization.

What actually happens is that players who have little time to spend on Freeciv tend to organize their gameplay in a quick (more arcade?) approach, playing for about 10-15 minutes per day, while others with larger time allowances meditate deeper their strategy, form pokerface alliances and generally cooperate more tightly.

Right now we are playing on the continental America with 22 players.
In case you want to join the math, this is the link to Greatturn.
