Question Enemy Territory: Quake Wars: keys to bring up console and get to desktop

There are 2 things I couldn't find out how to do in ETQW.
1) How do I get back to the desktop without exiting the game? I use KDE. Ctrl+Alt+D, Alt+Tab and Ctrl+Esc have no effect.

2) How do I get the console like in Quake? I red about Ctrl+Alt+~ but that doesn't work.

I Use Kubuntu 7.10 and ETQW 1.4

ALT+ENTER does the trick for me

"~" key for console or CTRL+ALT+~

or in console: cl_allowconsole 1

gl & hf!

Thanks

Alt+Enter toggles fullscreen/windowed, which is a good start, but unfortunately that doesn't allow me to get the cursor out of the window or to get any X key combination not catched by ETQW.

For console, both Ctrl+Alt+~ and ~ do nothing. I'm using a French Canadian keyboard layout, but I also tried Shift+"key left of 1" which doesn't do anything. The key combination which allows me to type "~" in the chat does nothing,

I don't know a thing about French Canadian keyboard layout..
But when you have your screen windowed.. press ~ for console.
Now you should be able to get KDE control again and switch back and to the game.

I can say that with Spanish layout, pressing ALT+~ or symply ~ does not work.

In order to get the mouse out of the window, you need to bring on the console.

I use this little script before running the game to make ~ keypress bring the console

Code:
TILDE_US="keycode  49 = grave asciitilde"
xmodmap -e "$TILDE_US"
It's the only way I've found to make the console appear, and be able to free the mouse cursor from the window game.

Thumbs up

Fylon, thanks but "~" didn't do anything...until I read Hammett's trick! Thanks much, that works fine. I didn't realize my 2 questions were related

For other people who would use this, you can use
$ xmodmap -pk|grep ' 49 '
to check what your key 49 was set to originally, or you can use kcontrol's keyboard layouts module to set the key back to its normal function.

Thank you again both

Fyl0n, it seems you meant "com_allowConsole 1"

Indeed Chealer.

com_allowconsole 1 is the correct command.

Sry for the wrong command!
