Enemy Territory dependences

This question is about sound in enemy territory. I alrady know about typing the following command in as root before I start the game:

echo “et.x86 0 0 direct” > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss

However this still does nothing, which leads me to believe I am missing some of the packages required for the sound. have the alsa-oss sound wrapper, the sdl sound packages and sdl mixer and various other packages relating to openal, sdl sound etc. Is there a particular package that is required?

This is an instlal of debian i did my self built up from the base install adding the packages I want.

Any ideas what packages are required for the sound to work when I issue the command above.

No Sound in ET.

If your running it on a 64 bit distro then you may need the 32bit sound lib lib32asound and make sure you have the ia32 libraries. I had a similar problem but with mine it was because of Esound which is a sound mixer so your PC can play multiple sounds at once. Try :

killall esd

this will kill the Esound process. And don't worry it didn't affect any of my other applications like MP3 players etc...
