DOOM 3 install problem with WineX

Well i bought it and i can almost install it, but when i get the Quick launch screen i hit "Install" it starts to load up the installer then i get the error:

1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime.

i've realized it has something to do with the install scripter (duh!) and i got the install scripter for Install sheild and put it under the C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver but i still get teh same error. i googled the bajesus outa it but nothing has helped so far. anyone know how i could fix this?

hate to say it.. but try and hang in there a few more days and wait for the linux installer to be released... I delayed my purchase until the installer is released to releive tension on myself so I would not resort to installing windows

I installed it on windows, windows is for games. Linux requires alot of work to get games properly going. In the end its not worth it if its just "I can play it in linux because I can".

you just have to know how to tweak CS. i have it running an AVG of 75 FPS on a Geforce FX 5200 on Slackware.
google it and you'll find the ways to do it

you may end up with a better visual experience when playing doom3 with wineX.

doom3 uses some directX components for things like heat distortion (and I immagine that its used in other places, such as the shock wave of distortion created by an exploding grenade)

when porting to linux, they will be forced to remove directX effects, but if you play the windows version with wineX, youll still have all the prety effects (assuming it works)

just a thought...

It looks like this will work with the Cedega-CVS with a patch.... I will try this out when I get home... here is the patch

http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/...hp?storyid=386

and here is a link to a gentoo-gfourum with a supposed walkthrough (i have not looked at it yet)

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.p...06076&start=25

and last but not least.. you should be able to find out what you need to know about a cedega-cvs versions here

http://www.transgaming.com/license.php?source=1

I will be attempting this over the weekend.. so if anyone gets a chace to get it to work... post up what you come up with... current speculation is that the linux biniaries arent coming as soon as one would think.

Ok I tried all the links above and I have not been sussesful.... I get this error message everytime I try and run it:

Code:
trey@slack:~/TransGaming_Drive/Program Files/Doom 3$ cedega Doom3.exe
Your system requires the use of pthreads but the maximum system allowed stack size of 2052 kB may be too small for some games.
If you experience problems, try rerunning with "-use-pthreads no" which may help.
/usr/bin/cedega: line 321: 18312 Killed $SHELL -c "$RUNWINE $WINVER -debugmsg $DEBUGMSG -use-dos-cwd $WORKDIR -- $COMMAND_LINE"
trey@slack:~/TransGaming_Drive/Program Files/Doom 3$
Im on slackware 9.1 with kernel 2.6.5... if anyone gets it working... please post up.

thanks
Trey

Wohhh, old thread, much has changed. I think you need a newer distro, I updated to Gentoo and have been fine with everything ever since.
