Difficulty Running Wow on Ubuntu .. Help

I just recently made the switch from XP to Ubuntu, and while i'm not a noob to computers in general.. i'm not overly familier with linux systems...

i've read some posts and how to's about running World of Warcraft on a linux machine... and here is what i've found so far...

Wine = runs windows apps on linux... not specifically designed for WoW, but workable in select cases depending on hardware...

Cedega = Program similar to wine, specializing in games ANd supporting wow...

i have followed how to menues for both programs and have both installed on my machine.. i'm able to install wow with no issues and no errors or pop ups. via the method of copying disk contents to the harddisk and running them from there...

i have the msot recent ubuntu, and have pretty much just followed the [next] button when it came to installing it.. basically a fresh run ont his pc.. so updates and drivers are unkown to me...

here are the spec's for this sorry machine...

under System Monitor it reads...

Ubuntu
Release : 8.04 (hardy)
Kernel Linux 2.6.24-16-generic
GNOME 2.22.1
HARDWARE
Memory: 1001.6 MB
Processor 0: Genuine Intel(R)CPU
Processor 1: Genuine Intel(R)CPU
SYSTEM STATUS
Available disk space: 79.5 GB

i also ran the Hardware testing app in ubuntu and got the following results..

SMPTE 100% color bars .................. YES
Mouse Function...........................YES
Internet connection fully established....YES
Keyboard Check...........................YES
Sound Check..............................YES

so given that info....what happens is i run wow by running the launcher as recomended by blizzard... it opens up as normal, tho on the top of the screen my ubuntu toolbar icons flash in and out of the wow window (ran in full screen mode as default).. the cinematic plays as normal with no real graphical issues other than that described above.. sound is normal. At the end of the cinematic or if i attempt to skip it via keypress... where normally it would display terms of use etc... the program closes...

the results are the same if i run wine or cedega, if i install with CD. or via harddrive copy.. which leads me to beleive it is a hardware/driver issue... tho i ran wow 100% fine on windows and never had the slightly prob...

so hoping there is something i'm just missing and maybe you can all help me out... thnkx

also i'm not sure how to examine the current drivers and settings for my hardware which is why that info is left out.. should someone be able to point that out i can also provide that info. :P

hmm

found another post about a person with wow issues.. they linked their config.wtf file... so i copied it and did a paste into my runonce.wtf file....

managed to get into a logging screen whith skipping graphix, but all visible and there... downloading the patch now.. hoping to give it another go soon and repost any issues/success i might have... here is the link to the post that contained the WTF file ...

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...alogin-639354/

upon patching and other updates... in addition to review of the post listed above...

i run across similar graphix problems when inside wow... no characte,r no building,, just basic atmosphere etc..

i however am NOT running ATI... i have built in intel graphix... so wondering the differences there.. i also have the latest version of wine.. (1.1) my glxgears does work and glxinfo returns the following...

Try to disable Desktop Effects (System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects > None).

Sorry, but that's the only solution I have found for running WoW on my system. On the other hand I find some of the desktop effects annoying anyway
