Damn.. I was really hoping that would be there... Oh well. I still have Quake 3 and Unreall04!!!
Hey, Doom3 will be available on linux ofcourse! It's still using opengl and I read somewhere on a doom3 forum that ID will make the binaries (or something...) avalaible so you can play it on unix/linux. This will be available some weeks after the official release. => it will be some setup like with Neverwinter Nights.
Mac users will have to wait some more months before it's available to them.
Besides: the original doom was developped on Unix!! (my colleages had it installed on their helpdesk machines back then not me, I'm not old enough to be working back then but ofcourse I played it at home (I was 13 I think))
Yes, this is true. The binary will be in the form of a Point Release just like Quake3, copy the main files off the Windows DOOM3 Install CD, install the PR, you're good to go. The Linux port has been in planning for a long time, and will be released soon--so hang in there.

there will be no offcial linux release... you will have to download the biniaries.. TuxGames might have an offcial box set... but if you are in the US.. why wait 2-4 weeks for them to deliver?
Distribution: Windows XP. I gave up with Linux & I left LQ.

I am looking forward to using Doom 3 in Linux. I just bought an Nvidia Asylum GeForce FX 5200 256 MB AGP. The only game I could find at Wal-Mart, and was sure I would be able to use it in Linux soon, was Doom 3. I will be getting Wolfenstein as soon as I can find it around here. I also Bought the Doom Trilogy. It has Ultimate Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom(which you would think would be Doom 3???? lol.) I am using all these in Windows XP, for now, But I want to use them in Linux. Are there binaries for the games in the Doom Triligoy so I can use it in Linux? Where are they at if so. I looked and haven't found them yet. And Doom 3 is great. I think they did a good job on it and the fact they they keep us linux users in mind is great.
Distribution: Mac OS X Leopard 10.6.2, Windows 2003 Server/Vista/7/XP/2000/NT/98, Ubuntux64, CentOS4.8/5.4

Doom 3 is actually Doom 1, but redone and reinterpreted so it has the same storyline as Doom 1. It's just totally souped up!
The linux binaries for Doom 3 will arrive "shortly". How long "shortly" means to ID, I have no idea but I'm guessing this week or next. Let us know if you hear of it.
I am unfamiliar with the Doom Trilogy linux binaries. Maybe try Wine/Cedega?

I hate to break it to you, but it's not a great card, and it doesn't run doom 3 very well.
You were probably overcharged for it to.
Take it back and buy something better online for a much better price (i'm thinking 5900XT)

I have to get my hands on Doom3... Does anyone know if it's still in stock? . By the way, webwolf, I don't want to burst your bubble, but a Geforce 5200 isn't that great a card...
