Diablo 2 problem

I am having trouble installing diablo 2 under slackware. I installed the latest version of Wine and configured it. when I type in "wine /mnt/cdrom/install.exe" to install all I get is the message box saying to insert the install disc. Any suggestions?!

Thanks

From what I've seen over and over on this board, don't expect Wine to work with everything.

I have the same problem!

Gentoo (2.6.9-ck3) ..

I've tried both Wine and Cedega now, i even updated wine to latest unstable Gentoo Portage version (20041201) ..

I mount Diablo II to /mnt/dvd and do: wine /mnt/dvd/setup.exe

But wine shows the dialog named "Insert Disc" and says "Please insert the CD labelled "Install Disc."

[OK] [CANCEL]

If i click OK, it just blinks, and if i press cancel i says "No program start menu found."

In Cedega the bottom of the output is as follows, after doing $ cedega /mnt/dvd/setup.exe ..

WineDbg terminated on pid 3
..

I know that both programs are known for working perfectly with this game, i haven't done any configuration in the Wine or Cedega conf, as i was told it would run out-of-box ..

I've seen some other guys on google with the same problem but no solution found, i would greatly appreciate any help ..

Merry Christmas, and a happy new-year!

I think that maybe some problem of your D2 installation version. If you install from the cd in windows it may also ask you to insert CD.

I couldn't get Diablo2 setup working with the latest releases of Wine/Cedega. With Wine it kept asking to insert the install cd, and Cedega crashed. With Wine-20050111 the error changed into something weird, that it couldn't find the items in the start menu.

I finally managed to get Diablo2 working with an older version of Wine(20041019). Works perfect, however sound it's a little choppy with oss driver. With Alsa driver sound it's unplayable. It keeps skipping forward. I played with the settings in the [dsound] section of wine config and i got some improvements, but nothing spectacular.
Any ideas are welcomed!

I running Slackware-current with 2.6.10 kernel and the latest alsa drivers.

Yeah I know why you couldn't get it to work with Cedega... its because of legacy.. Not to mention Error 21 more than likely also.

Check this link out...try it, it should work with Cedega once you do them.

Finally it works.
I only had to enable support for legacy VA layout on my Slackware, none of the other "fedora features" being present.
Sound works perfect too.

Thanks Snipersnest!
