Cube fails to run with segmentation fault (SDL parachute deployed)

Hi,
I have recently installed a nVidia Tornado Geforce FX 5200. I Installed the drivers and it will now run PPracer. I have downloaded cube and when I run the cube_unix script a black screen loads then closes. I am left with the messages:

init: sdl
init: net
init: world
game mode is ffa/default
init: video: sdl
init: video: mode
init: video: misc
init: gl
init: basetex
init: sound
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

I have looked through the readme but I don't understand how to fix this problem.
Any help much obliged

Tom

Try deleting the cube/config.cfg then try running again. Hopes it helps you.....

I am having the exact same problem with cube so if anyone has a solution please help.

For the moment though a quick and easy thing to do is use the 2002 version of the game which you can get at www.cubeengine.com that works fine for me.

Found it!!!

Guys, I found the solution in a French forum:

http://www.fedora-france.org/modules...forumpost41752

They say we have to type:

SDL_AUDIODRIVER=dsp
export SDL_AUDIODRIVER

before launching the exec. I tried on Fedora Core 4, AMD Athlon XP-M, ATI Radeon Mobility 9000, and it works!

Now I wonder where should I write this stuff in order to have this configuration permanently. I mean, which is the most clean&neat place?

Yo!

Code:
gedit $HOME/.bashrc
add the code there and it will become permanent. log out of gnome and log back in for this to take effect the first time. great finding by the way :)

Actually I preferred adding the line

export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=dsp

to the cube_unix script inside the cube folder, just before the last line:

exec ${CUBE_DIR}/bin_unix/${MACHINE_PREFIX}${SYSTEM_PREFIX}client $*

This way I don't even touch my Fedora's config files.
Thanks to you guys!

Ice

I have a simlar problem. When I run the cube 2 linux_client binary, I get a low resolution portion of my desktop showing in full screen and everything freezes. I then have to kill x and start it again. No error messages are none because the gnome-terminal is gone.
