Question Chess Connectivity VIA IP Adress

I have Eboard running under Debian. I have a friend in another state who I wish to play chess with. He runs Winbugs. I know both Eboard (Linux) $ Babas Chess (Windows) permit connection VIA IP address and both work on FICS. Will they be compatible, for connection and play, if I set him up with Babas Chess?

No to separate pieces of software that have nothing to do with each other can't connect to each other.
