Can I buy and download comercial games from the net?
Hey I am just wondering if anyone knows of somewhere that you can pay for games and then download cd images??
I donīt even know if this exisits. I would really like to buy Unreal tournament but I canīt see it happening here in Madrid. Adam |
dont know of any place that has a system specifically like that, but there are (of course) places that you can download the image for free
PS: sorry to hear about that train bomb. |
Thanks LavaDevil94 I have seen places for downloading it free but they always for windows and it seem easier to pay for it!
I really want it for linux and donīt mine paying. There doesnīt seem to be so much pirated stuff on the in the way of comerical games for linux. Adam Oh yeah there was about 10 bombs in 3 trains. Pretty crappy, I was just lucking that no one I know was injured. We could hear all day ambulance sirens. |
I know it's not the typical games for linux and such, but, here is a site where you purchase the games then download them.
http://www.garagegames.com/ Oh forgot also, that Savage over at www.s2games.com has a thing where you can purchase the game online and DL it. |
Sorry I took so long to reply. Thanks for those pages, but I do really only want to buy quake 3 arena or Unreal tournament.

@ jimdaworm
Linux games are difficult to find everywhere. If you have the Quake 3 and Unreal T tourmament for Windows, there's no need to buy them again, unless you want to support them. You can quickly download the official installers for it. (I doubt the UT is official though). In the case of Unreal Tournament 2k3, the Linux installer is shipped within the third install disk. Some companies, as Bioware, allows you to official download their games from the net, as Neverwinter NIghts. Still, in order to play them online, you need a valid CD key. ID software, for example, let you buy and download DOOM. Your best shot is contacting the manufactures who offers Linux ports and make a deal with them :). Good luck! |
Hey thanks Megaman X I have been trying to search for one of these installers as I have a copy of Unreal Tournament for windows. I got it going with winex but it was kinda crappy.
Could you point me in the right direction for an installer?? Adam |
This is the installer for the original UT game.
ftp://sunsite.dk/mirrors/lokigames/p...nstall-436.run There is a different installer and that can be found here aswell as many others installers and or patches for certain games. ftp://sunsite.dk/mirrors/lokigames/ |
Thanks MNKyDeth I am going to give both those installers ago... maby one will even work!

Hi again jimdaworm!
Here: http://www.icculus.org/~ravage/ you will find a hole bunch of game installers for Linux. Some are ratter interestings as Unreal installer (Unreal Classic, not Tournament). You install Unreal under Unreal Tournament Engine, which is really cool to use UT menus under Unreal classic. Check it out ;) Regards! |
Sweet thats a cool page Megaman X I didnīt realise there was another way to play windows games in linux without winex until today.
More stuff to try!! Thanks again Adam |
Megaman X,
thanx for the link! I'm up to the balls of nasty, long and complicated INSTALL files where they tell you to move files across your HD after unpacking ;) |
Cool, I'm glad you guys liked it :).
@ jimdaworm yeah, winex does a great job, I've to say, but nothing beats a game running natively. Although, in some cases, as RTCW, the differences between the game running in WineX or the ID's installer, are practically none. No kidding :) @ Hammett yeah, some installations are quite boring. Most of the installers from the link above will install a game directly from the CD. Again, RTCW is an exception. Now if you guys like the classic Doom, you can run it under Linux with a fine superior engine and a lot of improvments as mouse look, higher quality textures and even md2 models (Quake 2 models format) http://legacy.newdoom.com/ It does not work as nice as jDoom for that matter, but still holds a great second place. Multiplayer is also improved, now being similar to Quake :). This game is still worth a shot while you wait to lay a lot of cash to play Doom 3 at full detail :D Cheers! |
Hey Megaman X I am going to give that doom game a go to. Just to let you guys know I downloaded one of those installers put the cd in and installed the game and it ran no problems :D
I was awstruck! It runs better than in Windows XP! Loads quicker and multitasks without a huge lag!! Adam |
Cool jimdaworm!!! :) yeah, forget those old days on Windows when, to start a Game, your screen goes black, white, then blinks white-black, then change for a small safety resolution and 256 colors, then change to full screen, then starts the game, ghehe. :)
I wish there were more installers though :). But hey, WineX is becoming neat too :) |
