can't get fullscreen for sdl games

Hello. I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with Debian Squeeze on it. When I try to play games such as PrBoom (FreeDoom) or Frozen Bubble, I cannot get it to play in fullscreen mode. PrBoom will go in fullscreen, but it's not rendered properly (it's a mess). I'm not sure what the issue is.

From command line: frozen-bubble --fullscreen

About PrBoom, I don't know as I don't have it installed, but you may always get options list by typing: man GAME_NAME
