Can't play Torcs

Hi, I'm using KDE on FC4, and everytime I want to play torcs, it begins loading the scenery and the cars, but when finishing loading, it suddenly crashes. Here's the error message I get when I try launching Torcs from the command line:

Code:
$ torcs
Visual Properties Report

/usr/bin/torcs: line 52: 12813 Abortado                $LIBDIR/torcs-bin -l $LOCAL_CONF -L $LIBDIR -D $DATADIR $*
As a side note, I get the same results when I try to play Torcs from Gnome. Also, I closed Amarok before playing torcs to avoid this sound issue, but I got the same results.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem??

Thanks in advance.

I've seen a similar crash error, though usually happens when I change track. You should contact the FC Extras packager or open a bug at bugzilla.redhat.com with this exact dump. Or you could e-mail to the Torcs mailing list.

ok, I'll try contacting the FC extras packager.
Thanks for your reply.

Have you tried killing your sound manager?

in KDE, do killall artsd

in GNOME do killall esd

See if that works.

I'm venturing here to state that you are using onboard sound and most probably it is based on the snd-intel8x0 driver (in other words, your sound card doesn't support multiple sound streams at any given time, or said another way, hardware mixing). Still, I've ran Torcs on such cards (with either ESD or aRTs running) and (albeit without sound) it worked. YMMV, though.

I tried killing artsd before playing torcs and it still crashed. However, the error looks different now:

Code:
[vicente@dyn-1043 ~]$ killall artsd
[vicente@dyn-1043 ~]$ torcs
Visual Properties Report

GfParmCheckHandle: parameter "Rear Left Wheel/rim diameter" out of bounds: min:0.4064 max:0.4572 val:0.508 in ("Tanhoj" - "drivers/inferno/7/tracksdata/car_g-track-2.xml")
GfParmCheckHandle: parameter "Engine/tickover" out of bounds: min:523.599 max:523.599 val:314.159 in ("Formula One" - "drivers/olethros/9/default.xml")
GfParmCheckHandle: parameter "Engine/revs limiter" out of bounds: min:890.118 max:890.118 val:942.478 in ("Alfa Romeo 155 DTM" - "drivers/olethros/3/default.xml")
/usr/lib/torcs/torcs-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0: undefined symbol: pthread_create
And yes, I'm using an onboard sound card (intel, you're right). The weird thing is that I could play Torcs before. It was after I reinstalled FC that I haven't been able to play it (I did a 'yum update' after reinstalling Fedora and after that, I installed Torcs). I'm wondering, if this is a SELinux problem since I've had issues with SELinux and library loading in the past. Gonna try disabling it to see what happens.

EDIT: tried opening SELinux control and checking the 'Relabel on next boot' option but it didn't work; i got the same 'undefined symbol' error.

Have you updated openal recently (there's a fairly recent update in Extras)

Yes, I recently issued the command 'yum update' to update all packages. So I guess I have the latest openal release from the 'extras' repository. Btw, this openal version seems to be built from cvs, since when I query for openal version I get this:
Code:
$ rpm -q openal
openal-0.0.9-0.2.20060204cvs.fc4
Maybe I should downgrade to the previous version??

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: as a side note, I haven't mixed repositories, I'm just using 'base', 'updates-released', 'extras' and 'livna'.
