Of course I am a bit biased, but I think Doom 3 for linux with the Doom 3 Coop Mod Last Man Standing Coop installed kicks some serious ass. It has coop support for the regular levels and the ROE levels, and also has a new gametype that is survival in nature where you get to blast hordes of monsters! I still enjoy playing it and I think it is really fun, that is why we made it after all. The webpage is http://lms.d3files.com Also doom 3 runs quite nicely on linux which is really nice. The only problem is that you can't use an of the Doom 3 built in editors which sucks. GtkRadiant is available for mapping, but it definitely has its bugs. Take care.

Doom 3 the best game ? !!?

You must be joking.

I just bought Doom 3 a couple of days ago to see what the fuss is about. I can't say I'm particularly impressed so far. Alright, so the graphics are not bad (alright, maybe a slight understatement! ), but so what? Frankly, I haven't found it to be at all immersive. I haven't played it for more than about half an hour at a stretch, it's just too tedious, it's given me little incentive to play. Contrast this with real games like, say, Deus Ex or System Shock 2 (neither of which have linux ports, alas), which I played practically non-stop until I fnished them (tired, unshowered, and bleary eyed ). Couldn't put them down. Doom 3 on the other hand, is entirely average.

The main problem is that it's just a typical Id game, devoid of any actual gameplay. Another problem is the same as with RTCW; why are zombies hiding in cupboards or, even more retarded, in a hole in the ceiling? This is moronic. I don't like games like this that are nothing more than a bunch of staid set pieces. Where's the choice? Where's the gameplay? In fact, where's the game?

And, by the way, how come you can't toggle between fullscreen and window mode or change the resolution/graphics settings on the fly? UT (all versions) can do this. Even Quake 2 can do this. Wtf are they playing at?

I also find Id's bloated sense of self-importance hilarious. From the blurb on the back of the case:

Quote:
A sci-fi horror masterpiece, doom 3 is like nothing you've ever experienced. Dramatic storyline, pulse-pounding action, incredible graphics, and revolutionary technology combine to draw you into the most frightening and grippping first person gaming experiecence ever created.
Wow! This is the best work of fiction Id have ever produced. Now, if only they could put such creativity into their games.

Quote:
A sci-fi horror masterpiece
This doesn't even deserve a respone.

Quote:
doom 3 is like nothing you've ever experienced
Er, how about Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom, Quake, and Quake 2. And just about every other FPS ever made. Oh, and the email/pda element is clearly ripped off from System Shock 2, no?

Quote:
Dramatic storyline
There's a storyline?

Quote:
pulse-pounding action
Pulse-slowing, more like. All I've seen so far is a bunch of Imps/zombies tiresomely popping up behind me every time I go around a corner. Yawn.

Quote:
incredible graphics
Well, OK, I'll give them that. But graphics are not a substitute for gameplay. And what, frankly, is the point of the fancy graphics anyway? It's too dark to see anything. I'm still not sure what an Imp actually looks like, first the're just some lurking shadow, then the're dust...

Quote:
revolutionary technology
Here's someone else who needs to read a dictionary. What's revolutionary about adding more detail and physical effects to a game? In asteroids, your ship had inertia; that's physics. Games since then have simply incrementally improved the graphics, added more physical effects, and increased the accuracy thereof. This is a process of _evolution_ and it will continue until hardware is powerful enough to create a fully detailed and accurate, real time representation of physical reality (as we understand it). At no point is there a "revolution".

Quote:
the most frightening and grippping first person gaming experiecence ever created
This is just total bollocks. There's nothing remotely frightening here, just the same old "turn the lights out and pop up behind you" tedium. As for gripping, pfff, I've seen more grip on a bar of soap.

Tsk, tsk. Poor show Id, old chaps. Poor show.
