I don't know about you guys, but I'm seeing vast improvements in UT2004's performance with the latest version of ATI's proprietary linux drivers. The performance is now on-par with WindowsXP/Direct3d. Looks like they finally got some work done on OpenGL with Doom3 on the scene.
The only thing I can't make sense of is why the ATI control panel did not install. I got a (paraphrase) "QT Library Not Found" message, and I know for a fact that I have it because I'm running KDE. Anybody got a workaround?

Cool! I'm wondering if I should upgrade my ATI drivers. I'm still using 3.2.5. Did you have any troubles installing them?? Any problems on other games like Enemy Territory?
Also, you a student at CAL? I graduated from there last year.
glxgears aint a benchmark dude - try giving us some results from ut2k4
As for Micro, apparently performance in UT2k4 is about the same as with 3.2.5 (maybe 5fps worse), but it fixes glitches that some people got with 3.2.5/8

I finally decided to upgrade to 3.11.1 and I must say the installation was easy. I just uninstalled my previous ATI driver, then installed this new one and that was it. I was afraid I would get some crazy errors, but nothing happened and my games are still playing and running. I don't notice any difference, though. As long as I'm Doom 3 ready, I'm content.

I am on a 9600 Pro, I ran UT2k4 up in here.. that shit runs better than the windows version at all optimal settings.
Micro: I suppose there is not much of a speed difference if you're going from 3.2.5 => 3.11. I understand the main improvement in the newer drivers is compatibility - I had previously used 3.9.0, and yuck, I'd get like 30 fps peak and 15 in a firefight on ONS-Torlan, and it'd glitch if it had to load too many textures (ie, big onslaught or assault maps, which are the mian reason for playing UT). After the upgrade, it's steady at 60. Now I have something multiplayer to muck about in Linux besides enemy territory
And yeah, I am at cal, actually; I'm heading into my senior year. I'm a junior transfer so I feel like I just got here though. Right now I'm working the scary, deepest catacombs of Doe Library doing XML markup and admin stuff.

My friend, Garrett M. works in Doe. He's a violinist stacking and shelving books. Keep an eye out for him. He's a Debian user.
and if you hear anything of the Doom 3 linux binaries, let us know!

Like I stated earlier, I don't really see much difference going from 3.2.5 to 3.11.1. I'm sure it's more of an internal thing. But hey, if 3.7.6 works for you, stick with it until it gives you problems. Then you should upgrade!
