Are there any decent creative/sandbox games for Linux?
I'm aware of Minecraft, Starbound, Terraria, Crea, and Factorio.
I was watching some gameplay of Space Engineers and it made me wish there was something like that on Linux. I don't think there is, but I don't know. Does anyone know of similar games, preferably with a technical aspect like in Space Engineers or redstone in Minecraft? |
My favorite website for finding alternative software is https://alternativeto.net

looks promising:

You might want to check out Gmod, if you haven't already. There exists a ton of mods that can alter the gameplay to the way you want it (List of mods I like to play with). Gmod do require Steam and it's recommended to have some more source games installed for the purpose of getting more content. Otherwise you might be able to find some great Linux games with the "Sandbox" tag in this Steam search.

Right now I’m pretty into minetest (a minecraft clone), and colobot (a space survival/programming game).

Stellaris is a good 4x/strategy game for linux.

Hey! There are lots actually, some in early access and stuff. For example,
Maia: https://store.steampowered.com/app/252250/Maia/ Rim World: https://store.steampowered.com/app/294100/RimWorld/ Streets of Rogue: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5...eets_of_Rogue/ Kerbal Space Programme: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2...Space_Program/ I hang out on this site and get lots of news about games on linux: https://www.gamingonlinux.com |
Besiege is a slightly different game, but with some technical building and testing. Highly rated.

I purchased (from Steam) and have played Rising World but haven't spent enough time playing it to suggest whether it's worth it (I bough it during a sale).
I liked the minecraft-style playing and the more advanced graphics. Reminds me to check it out again. |
There is this, but not really a game per se. I own it but have only goofed around with it once or twice.
