AOE2 AOC throught Wine

I am able to run the AOE2 Program on my Slackware 11 box with wine.
But It says pls insert cd in single player mode.

Now that is not such a major problem..(though it would help if someone cleared that too)
When I click on Multiplayer I can't see the different options that should come on the right,,.
TCP/IP Connection
LAN Game
etc,etc.
So I can't connect to Multiplayer Games

Anyone ever faced this problem b4? Knw how to solve this?

What sort of multiplayer game are you wanting to play? LAN and TCP/IP shouldn't need anything else, but internet-based stuff requires the MSN Gaming Zone stuff, doesn't it? And you need to run an IE engine to get to that. The big deal is that WINE is constantly under development and usually a bit behind all the games. All I can really say is to get the latest packages.

The asking for the cd thing is normal. The AOK campaigns aren't on the AOC disk and vice-versa.

I am using the Latest Wine version. And I want to play LAN and TCP/IP games. It simply doesn't show the options when I click on Multiplayer. (MSN Zone requires you to click something else entirely)

Hmm... try this.

ln -s /mnt/cdrom /$USER/.wine/dosdevices/d:

That should create a symlink to your cd drive that Wine MAY be able to use to detect the cd. I'm not sure it works.

Have you tried the WineHQ AppDB page at http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=4184? They usually have all the workarounds you'll need for any application/game in Wine.

If I can find AOE II again in the next couple of days, I'll see if I can get it running under 0.9.24. They've done a lot of work on Wine in the last several versions that should make one heck of a difference. I'll let you know what I find out.

The thing is .. I dont need CD drive. I dont want to play Single Player Games, I want to play Multiplayer that doesn't require a CD.

Go to This Page.

Open up a search box (usually Ctrl+F) and type this archive. Press Enter if you need to (Firefox automatically takes you there.) Follow the instructions in that paragraph, and see if that fixes it for you.

This is sort of a tangent... I've heard that one needs a no cd crack/patch/whatever to run AOE and/or AOM under wine. Now I've legally purchased AOE I, AOE II AOC, and AOM the titans legally, from a store and am in no way violating the law, but I'd like to play them on my linux partition. I've never installed a cd crack on windows or otherwise. Any hints? I've heard google is a good resource, but so far it's turned up zilch.

@worldgnat:

I think this is what you're looking for. I stole the link from the AppDB page I linked in my previous post.
