Another Doom3 error (async)
Hi guys, just got the D3 linux installer and it all installed fine. I have tried copying the .paks over and tried symlinking to the windows originals, but every time I run it I get............

I've tried without terminal support, I've tried running it on it's own X server, always the same error, which as far as I can tell is sound related. My sound functions perfectly in all other applications.
Athlon 1800+, GeforceMX440 512MB RAM SB live. timedemo demo1 in DOS-XP gets about 18-22fps.
Any thoughts?

Two issue is possible:
1. Install it in a different dirctory (preferably in your home directory so read and write support is gaurranted).
2. Run "fsck" or "fsck -f" for any hdd problem...
"signal caught: Aborted" means that a process which you can't see it clearly, prevented doom3 from loading and forced it to shutdown.

OK, I fsck'd the partition, reinstalled doom3, recopied over the pak's ( I can always go back to symlinks when I get it working). Double and triple checked write permissions to /usr/local/games/doom3.
Sadly the same.
Also tried running it on an Xserver with only the monitor active rather than TV too.
AFIAK my default bppp is 24 ( though if I could remember how to force this on xinit I'd double check).
Is there a way to find out what is falling over in the background.

try running :
then scroll back thru the output when it pukes and you might possibly see what's causing it to shutdown.

Got it,
After much reading of strace, I came to the conclusion that the game was looking for a non existent functrion in the NV drivers. I updated them to the latest ones available in portage and now Doom3 works a treat.
On the down side I now have the broken nv driver that wont let me cntrl alt Fn between consoles, all the non X xonsoles are garbled.
you win some, you lose some.
