agpart fglrx error in backround using winex

help help.

I have managed to get my ati card installed with the appropriate drivers.
I have managed to also get winex and games to run.

Here is where my question begins.

When in a game i try to change the resolution of a game and 90% of the time it boots me back to the (desktop) and closes the game.
When i check the konsole it says something along these lines:

error fglrx agp (something something)
(will post the exact line when i get home and run this again)

Anyway i have another question.

When i play Half-Life using winex its DAMN slow
same with ut2004
but my warcraft frozen throne is smooth?

what could i do to speed up my games.

PS. i heard that one needs to create a Graphical X with nothing loaded
and then just load up winex and run the game?
If this is true how do i accomplish this??

Thanks
