A funny thing about the K* games: last weekend I've had a LAN with friends from scouting. But we've had enough fun without the gaming too. Some other people from our organization even drop by, because they know it's always fun! (and don't like computers that much though)

But what amazed me a little, two 15 year old girls have been playing a lot of K* games at my machine. One of them asked where to find the games, and I showed them the K-menu item. I have the kind of idea they were quite amazed by the number of games. (and I said they were installed by default) ...and they liked it a lot. One of them said I had a cool system ..because of those games :p

This really is a funny thing to tell. :)

i dont have many kgames on my system, but thats because theyre mostly board or card games, which are my least favorite.

Thetargos 10-13-2003 11:12 AM

The kind of games that come with the KDE or GNOME desktops (K* or G* games) I like them... specially that Mahjong thingie :D, it is very cool. Anyhow that reminds me of what a game really is, or simply what it is not about: A game is not about graphics, sounds or publicity... a game has to be fun to play in order to be enjoyable... I mean, most of these games don't even have sound! and many, many people (of all ages) enjoy them!

LavaDevil94 10-13-2003 11:19 AM

well, opinion is divided on the subject.

Thetargos 10-13-2003 11:28 AM

For example... An experience a friend and I had: He bought an XBoX, we thought it would be cool to play games like Halo, after all Halo was the flagship game for the XBoX at that time and obviously he got it... the problem was that after we finished the game in co-op mode it stopped apealing to us... why? simply it has no re-play value. The other Multiplayer options were not as varied or fun to play as say a good Quake3 Arena Game or an Unreal Tournament (classic) match, basically games that appart of just being two humans in the battle field, you have many other bots to play with. Sure Halo was fun the first time around, but it certainly got boring after the second time... Nevertheless we still paly some Q3A or UT LAN games now and then :D

"One of them [kids] said I had a cool system ..because of those games"

Kids are so much more adaptable - if you started them off on linux they would prolly just develope into it as if it was just normal.

I have plans for my lil 'un. ;)

It really ticks me off the Shockwave does not run on Linux for this reason - I hate booting up the XP box just so my kid can play his zone.com games or disney games etc.

mossy im still waiting for my video card so I can hopefully run sof2 in wine and NEVER have to have a HeX-P partition ever again...then ill be able to wipe my 80gig windows drive for MORE storage :) (not like i need it... 160gigs in my box ;))

mossy 10-13-2003 02:16 PM

kewl. I was thinking about getting a new video card - need a better monitor first tho.

Does anyone know why Shockwave have not ported yet??
It is a Direct X issue or something?

Has anyone got it to run under wine?

arioch 10-13-2003 02:29 PM

ill try to install shockwave when i get home...I think there is a tarball somewhere out there...i could be wrong...i dunno...ill let you know how it turns out.
