A hardware/software Compatibility List for Age of Empires 3 (or 2 with TC expansion)
 

I have read through all of the Age of Empires threads. Seems some people are fortunate enough to be able to run and play this great game, while some are stuck. We are AOE2 with TC expansion fanatics here and are wanting to buy 2 new PCs for higher performance requirements of AOE3 - it also needs 64MB video card with HLT and directx9.

I would love advice on what to buy so we can have a chance of running this under Linux. I hate XP and would prefer not even have dual booting if at all possible. With dual booting, it always seems like someone leaves a PC in M$ Windows after playing games, and then before you know it, viruses. I don't trust XP firewall, antivirus, and spyware "protection".

So please add what has worked OR hasn't worked - hardware and/or software. Thanks! :study:

AOE3 is made by Microsoft. Microsoft hates linux and you. It doesn't run on wine or cedega yet.

The NVIDIA cards have better Linux drivers than those of ATI, so if you are going to buy a new video card go for NVIDIA.
