Yast and Yast2
 

I am now preparng to start my 1st installation of LFS. I just started the file download stage. However, is it possible to install Yast and Yast2 also in LFS? If yes, how?

I read that Novell-SuSE just made it available under the GPL but have no more details.

If you can download the source code for it, then you can install it. Here's the thing: neither the LFS book or the BLFS book do anything regarding package management. If you want to install it, then you'll have to buckle down, read the installation documentation that comes with Yast, and figure out what options/configuration you need to make it work for your system. All of that information should be in the tar file you download from Suse. You may run into a number of problems using it if your LFS system is not set up the way Yast expects it to be (directory placement, filenames, etc.)

Also, you might not find a lot of help regarding package management on the lfs-support IRC channel. I've been on a couple of times, and package management is always a rough issue. There are people that have a favorite package manager, and hate all the others. Some think that package managers go against the "spirit" of LFS since you're installing pre-compiled binaries on a system that was (originally) intended to have everything compiled by hand.

I'm not saying you can't do it. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it. What I am saying is, you should go in with your eyes wide open. LFS is a learning experience, and there are bound to be some things that will trip you up. A lot of the time, you'll have to search out an answer yourself because nobody will have a system exactly like yours, and that's the benefit/curse of LFS.
