This may be more suitable in the software forum, but as it's the result of compiling an LFS system, I thought I'd put it here. Actually, it gets fuzzier cause installation of X only occurs in BLFS. Anyway...
I've installed just about everything I want to install. I have Gnome working, and I'm actually writing this post with the LFS system I created. My problem is more of an annoyance than anything else. When X is started (via Gnome or straight vanilla), the mouse pointer will not respond immediately. I move the mouse, and it takes a few seconds for the pointer to respond. From that point on, the mouse works fine.
It's not a wait-til-input-driver-is-loaded thing, because I get the same delay even if I wait 5 minutes after X starts to move the mouse.
Does anybody have any ideas? It's a USB mouse if you think that makes any difference. Would running gpm possibly help? I know that's only for the console (and I haven't tried), but maybe one mouse manager could help the other...
Anyway, I'm going to search through the FAQs and hints in case some other poor shmuck had the same problem. Thanks for any input you can give.
No... corded mouse. To be speciific, it's a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 (optical).
As a side note, I would like to thank you for creating and maintaining the LFS project. I've tried to build an LFS system multiple times, and each time I got a little further. I'm definitely within reach of my final goal. I also owe the BLFS guys a big "thank you."
If you guys need any help with anything, I'd be more than happy to donate some time. I don't know what you guys might need, but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case.
this is only a thought... but could it be that after the system loads the mouse isn't (being usb) detected until you move it?
What I mean is you restart the machine and X then when you first twitch the mouse the kernel's usb management recognizes the device and sets it up then you're off and running? if so could this be a hotplug issue?
just a thought. let us know if you get it figured out.
