Without the Live CD

Can I install LFS in a terminal window in Ubunutu?

Allso shoudl I run 6.4 or 6.3 with latest kernel?

You can build a LFS system from any distro, just make sure you have the build-essential package and check the other dependency requirements from the LFS book

Yes, you can

Yes, You Can. You can build an LFS over ubuntu or any other distro. Only check that your distro has the required tools.

I don't certainly the difference of ver6.3 from ver6.4 (I think I built the ver6.3, I'm not really sure), but you may use any of them, or add your own packages, if you wish. You just have to know what is exactly what you're doing, because LFS is not exactly an instruction set; but a guideline.

Anyway, the LFS live CD is useful in the case that you don't have Internet access, because Live CD includes all the source codes for building your LFS.. and some other nice rescue tools.
