Hi,
here is my set up
Motherboard: AT310NT-I
Processor: Atom 330 64 bit
Video:ION
hard drive is a SSD
I was thinking Linux from scratch, but I want to use my 64 bit capabilities and make sure my SSD is optimized and not going to die. So if Linux from Scratch will work what documents should I read for this type of setup, if I need to look at another distro where should I be directed.
What is your netbook called? Many netbooks such as the EEE use the atom processor. There's plenty of distros geared towards netbooks if that is what you want.
If you want the most minimalist approach then LFS, Arch, Gentoo, or FreeBSD are appropriate as they start out with a minimalist approach and you have to build up your OS from the base system (i.e. no X.org or other packages)
Netbook where did you get that from its just a small case that mounts to the back of my monitor I built it myself? no I am just concerned because I want to use the 64 bit capabilities but with LFS I was having booting problems with the 64 live cd. I also just wanted to know because I can't find in the LFS handbook about setting up an ssd hard drive.
As long as you're using as late as possible a kernel and a late parted/gparted/fdisk then your utilities should create a properly aligned partition on your SSD (google "SSD partition alignment linux"). Other than that you treat your SSD as a normal hard disk. I believe your device comes up as /dev/sd[a-z] and partitions are /dev/sd[a-z][0-9] on the latest versions of the Linux kernel.
