Unable to Login to KDE
Hello!
I have recently installed Red Hat Linux 6 that came with the Sams book "Red Hat Linux 6 Unleased". Everything seems to have installed fine BUT ... When the system reboots, I get to the KDE's kdm screen where it prompts me for a Login and a Password. BUT ... at no time during the installation of Linux did it every ask me for this information. What do I have to do to "create" a login and password? Sorry ... this must be a easy question for all you LINUX gurus ... but, I'm a little rusty with my UNIX ... and I'm also pressed for time I can spend on this problem. Thanks for any help you can give me. Jason T. Smith |
RH6? That's very very old. Anyway, assuming you have to stick with it, did you at any time create a password for root? If so, do ctrl+alt+F<n> where n is one of your function keys until you get to a console login. Login as root and use adduser or useradd to add a normal user.
Definitely switch to a more recent distro when you have tyhe opportunity to do so - RH6 went end of life some years ago and there are no recent security updates or patches. And welcome to LQ :D |
