Unable to Login to KDE

Hello!

I have recently installed Red Hat Linux 6 that came with the Sams book "Red Hat Linux 6 Unleased".

Everything seems to have installed fine BUT ...

When the system reboots, I get to the KDE's kdm screen where it prompts me for a Login and a Password.

BUT ... at no time during the installation of Linux did it every ask me for this information.

What do I have to do to "create" a login and password?

Sorry ... this must be a easy question for all you LINUX gurus ... but, I'm a little rusty with my UNIX ... and I'm also pressed for time I can spend on this problem.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

RH6? That's very very old. Anyway, assuming you have to stick with it, did you at any time create a password for root? If so, do ctrl+alt+F<n> where n is one of your function keys until you get to a console login. Login as root and use adduser or useradd to add a normal user.

Definitely switch to a more recent distro when you have tyhe opportunity to do so - RH6 went end of life some years ago and there are no recent security updates or patches.

And welcome to LQ :D
