umm...is lfs possible using rpms???
 

is it possible to create an lfs system using rpms instead of the sources??? this may seem to be a very lame question, but i cant really download all the sources...my dial-up connection is so slow that it wud take me months for that 134 mb download..i have the redhat distro cd..will that help??

wont rpm -ivh --root /mnt/target do the job??

because its the goal of a lfs system to compile the source with pc specific options and to use only needed and wanted software ... but if you use precompiled rpms its no lfs anymore although you will fall into a dependenci hell wow my english is bad :)

I still don't see why the hell you would want to do that. :) I'm on dialup too and I download both 4.1 and 5.0 just fine. I downloaded the wget script and let it run over night. Woke up and started compiling.

Months of downloading? I downloaded everything right from the links in the html version of the book. I'm on dial-up as well and it took me 2 nights using Kget. I just qeued everything and went to sleep. It took 2 nights because I only get 6 hours of download a night. Using rpm's, if that's even possible, defeats the purpose of lfs, mainly obtaining the knowledge of how things work and where things go. There's no customization at all with rpm's - they install themselves where their creators thought they should go. Very frequently in the LFS book, you install software to places other than their default locations. So, in answer to your question: no, I don't think it's even plausable to use only rpm's, however, I wish you good luck in finding a solution to your problem.
