Trouble with configuring xorg

Hi all,
I am currently unable to configure or start xorg. The problem started when I accidentally deleted /usr/include. After copying the header files from /tools/usr/include, I was able to reinstall other header files. I then decided to upgrade from xorg-7.2 to xorg-7.4. That was when things started to go wrong. Xorg-7.2 was installed at /usr, but Xorg-7.4 is currently sitting in /opt/xorg-7.4.

Anyway, everything was fine when I built xorg. The real problem was that Xorg -configure detected 20 screens installed on my humble Asus laptop, and returned with an error stating, "Number of created screens does not match the number of detected devices. Configuration failed."

I tested the config file.
(EE) No devices detected.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I would really appreciate if any of you have ANY idea or experience with this. I know that my driver is supported as I ran xorg-7.2 with no issues what-so-ever. I desperately need to finish this off and compile kde. Any reply will be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Awww. FreeForEternity! Why would you do that?* Are you sure you have everything (important) back? Personally, I would just reinstall the distro at that point.

*Accidents happen!

You want to have two versions of Xorg on your system? Is that why it is logically "optional?" This is the first time I've heard of someone doing this.

My recommendations would be to reinstall all -dev packages and/or at least verify your include dir, and install Xorg to the standard place. Lastly, verify your flags to configure. I'm sure there are some things you could easily miss with a package like Xorg.

Or, I would at least try this:

Code:
sudo apt-get --reinstall install $(dpkg -l *-dev | grep ^ii | awk '{ print $2 }' | xargs)
Not sure what distro you're on. It seems like there's a more straightforward way to do the above, probably, too.
