totally confused now! which is the source dir

Ive just decided to end my second try at this because ive confused myself with what is meant by the source driectory in chapter 5.1.

It reads...

After installing each package, delete its source and build directories, unless specifically instructed otherwise. Deleting the sources prevents mis-configuration when the same package is reinstalled later. Only three of the packages need to retain the source and build directories in order for their contents to be used by later commands. Pay special attention to these reminders.

"Build directories" is obvious but I first interpreted the source as the compressed file, but I reckon Im wrong! Is it the directory created with the command
tar jxf package.tar.bz2?

So in relation to my other topic, I will have to extract the tarball again during pass 2 later in the book?

Many Thanks

LFS is hard. Especially for a newbie. Every time you untar a package, you cd into the created directory, and configure, make etc from there. Once done, you delete that directory, not the tar file.
