Yes LFS is the best (only ?) way to learn how linux works, what is necesesary, which task for each item, and then, you may be able to optimize other distributions for your needs.
LFS has a great succes, there are now plenty of LFS boot cdroms that boots a virtual system (with virtual write mode ) and installs for you a full functional LFS system on an empty partition

Just a quick question? What is the point of LFS if your gonna have something do it for you, then it's not really Linux from scratch.
Am i wrong. The fact that you do it yourself is what makes it from scratch otherwise it's just like any other distro just no frills. IMHO

yeah, i think they should change the name to "linux from source" or something like that... the word "scratch" is a little overboard, IMHO... having said that, i think one of the major pluses for using LFS is that you LEARN more, and it helps you become a better techie...

Yes I agree with you, at the first times ( maybe one year old ) I made the LFS from zero, without boot cdrom. I have learn much about booting script and essential linux programs. Now, because I have adapted LFS and I always have same needs, I doesn't need anymore starting always from very scratch. Compilation is automated and I just configure the system...

You can have frills. You can install what you want.
