Suggested readings before starting off with LFS

The title says it all.

I'm not a newbie to linux but I'm no professional nor an expert or a die hard programmer (not even a programmer).

I'm trying out LFS for the ~10th time and every time I get stuck somewhere not having the faintest idea what possibly could have gone wrong. A bit like not knowing that there exists something like a boot order and smashing your computer's screen because it doesn't boot off the CD-rom but from the HD you know?

Is there someon who can suggest some website to read first to get a bit of an idea what's the task of a compiler / assembler / linker / ... . I feel when I'm reading the book I'm rather often just copy pasting things in the terminal and hoping I'm not getting an error message.

I'd like to finally succeed and get an LFS-system running at last.
Thanks

Google what the page headings are telling you... if you dont know what that word means or does... google or wiki...

Hi,

To add to zer0signal's post: The LFS book has at least 6 external links to howto's and documents. Did you read those?

After I posted the first question I have given it a read. While writing this post I'm building the kernel so one of the very last steps.

I hope the system will boot because in the last few steps I think I missed some things about udev and tmpfs things ... .

Anyway I'll give it a shot.

but back on topic. I found the hints good as well.

When I did it, I did have issues with Udev. Though I don't recall what they actually were, but I did ended up resolving them.

I don't think there's anything to worry about if you came this far without any errors.

The last few steps can be tricky, but the framework is there and those last few possible problems can be resolved (most of the time.... :) ).

Have fun using LFS!
