If you use chroot from your host you can run into problems. This because the kernel and /dev/* that are used are from your host and not from your LFS system.

To make life easier i would suggest installing wget, gpm and lynx after you finish LFS and before starting BLFS. This way you can get packages, use the html book and copy/paste if needed.

Ouch!! I guess that is not good. I tried using lynx last night and almost ended up throwing the keyboard at the wall. Now I found out about ^P and ^N to scroll 2 lines at a time. I will give that another try I guess.

I agree with the advice not to do that, but I partially did my first couple of BLFS systems that way without any problems. Maybe I was lucky or just didn't notice the problems. Anyway, then the folks here taught me to install GPM and Lynx to build in the native LFS system. That's the correct way to do this work.

I understand exactly what you're talking about. Lynx still is not my favorite app or browser. But for the job we're talking about (reading and copying the book while in the native LFS system before X is installed), it is highly valuable. After I have built the system up to the point of having X, Fluxbox, Xfe, and Firefox, I never use Lynx again (until the next system). To me, Lynx is like learning vi. It can drive you barking mad at first, but after a while its peculiar ways just get ingrained and become natural. I recommend that you try again and stay with it. Sort of like breaking a wild horse.

Nice to know I am not alone. :) Vim is so much more configurable. If only I could have the current selected link in reverse video instead of being white bold... I cant' even make a reliable navigation in the option form. I totally loos track of where I am. Not sure who is the wild horse me or lynx. Anyway, trying to install xorg...
