Samba, acces denied

Hi,
I've installed Samba on a Fedoracore 4.
When I share folders in it and connect to it from a windows box, when I try to copy a file into the shared folder get the message "Access denied". It means to me that I have only Read access. But in SMB.CONF I set
this the settings of that folder:

[WebShare]
path = /usr/local/apache2/htdocs
valid users = moh2,hs
writable = yes

You know, when I change "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs" with "/tmp" everything becomes ok. I thought it could be because of the CHMOD of "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs". I chenged it to 777, just like chmod of /tmp.
But it didn't work and the access denied message still appears.

What's wrong with my Samba ?
(I also disabled the Firewall, but the problem still exist)

try making the user you are logging in as the owner of the directory. If you have multiple users, put them in a group and make the group owner.

I have a similar problem. I get "Access is Denied" on my Windows box when I try to write. Reading is OK.
I have checked to access rights of the Samba share wit the "LS" command and it shows me as the owner, with rwx.
Is there any way I can get more information out of Windows or Linux as to why the Access is Denied?
Alternatively, should I change the /Path to /tmp as the previous writer did

Thanks
David

HI Underdark,

Don't understand the

drwxr-xr-x 3 nobody users 4096 2005-09-20 14:50 share/

What is this? Is it a command?

UnderDark 09-20-2005 07:31 PM

it is the result of running "ls /" on my machiene.

Important parts:
drwxr-xr-x [user permissions]
nobody users [owner group]
share/ [name of file/dir]

This way it works. Is there any way to change the owner of a file from SWAT?

bayvista 09-21-2005 03:36 AM

OK. I have now copied your smb.conf but using my local names. The "ls" command on my shared directory shows:

rw-rw-r-- 1 david david 5466 sep15 02:35 zzzz.sxw

zzzz.sxw is a file I created in Linux. I still can't write to the Linux share from Windows.

I have only one user on Linux and no groups. The password has been set to the Windows password.

Do I have to mount the share? If so, what is my 'mount point'? The Basic Samba NFS doc gives an example of a 'mount' command, but does not explain 'mount point'.

Thanks
David

As I am using XP, do I need password encryption?

UnderDark 09-21-2005 02:05 PM

you need to set the line that reads

guest account = nobody

to:

guest account = david

Thanks, Underdark.

I can now write to the Samba share.

Just one small step for mankind!!!

Hey guys, I started this samba stuff. Did you forget my problem?
I need to change the owner of the files to make the folder writeable. Other samba servers doesn't require doing so. What's wrong with my samba?
