Python install

ack.. I'm trying to install Python following the Python hint, but am stuck. I downloaded the proper tarball (although I actually need 2.2 installed), and followed their instructions, but when getting to:
cd Modules
less setup.in

which there is no 'setup.in' (or any setup file I could see).

Did I possibly do something wrong? I have the Python2.2 source unpacked in a different directory. Would it be ok to move on with that, or should I install 2.0 first?

:newbie:

edit: I feel I should add that I've been using Gentoo and love it, hence the reason for my Python install. I would like to install portage to my fresh new LFS system. This would be the ultimate in ease of use AND optimization, imho.

Python 2.0 and 2.2 have nothing to do with each other. You can safely go directly to 2.2 without trying 2.0 at all.
