Problem with final stage....GRUB error 17

Hi all

I have succesfully completed all the steps in the LFS 6.3 ebook except the last one...

i have added the following lines in the host system boot loader

Code:
#
# This entry is for LFS
#
title LFS 6.3
root (hd0,5)
kernel /boot/lfskernel-2.6.22.5 root=/dev/hda6
when i select this option in the grub menu after booting .. iam getting the following error

Code:
"Booting LFS"
root(hd0,5)
FIlesystem type Unknown,Partition type 0xb
Kernel /boot/lfskernel_2.6.22.5
root=/dev/hda6
Error 17 :
Cannot mount selected partition
Press any key to continue
more over my fdisk and df commands are showing ambigous results...
Code:
fdisk shows
----------
/dev/hda6 2701 3097 3188871 b W95 FAT32
----------
df shows
----------
/dev/hda6 ext3 3.0G 1.5G 1.4G 53% /mnt/disk[hda6]
----------
even in fstab its showing as ext3
---------
/dev/hda6 /mnt/disk[hda6] ext3 noauto,users,exec 0 0
---------

I didnt install the grub boot loader seperately as mentioned in the ebook.instead i used the host system grub.conf to add the new LFS entry..i dont think this is the problem...Am i correct..??

Please help me to get rid of this error....

THANKS IN ADVANCE

hi all

after googling a bit...i found that

Code:
Partition num: 4, Filesystem type is fat, partition type 0xb
may be my system is considering the partition /dev/hda6 as fat filesystem... Is this the reason for the error.....?

I have the backup of file system of the newly built LFS....

Code:
Can I format the partition /dev/hda6 again with ext3 format and copy the
filesystem of newly built LFS to the partition to solve this problem
Please help me to boot LFS...

THANKS IN ADVANCE

You (presumably) haven't set up the partitions properly. Simplest solution is to change the partition type from within fdisk.
No need to do anything to the filesystem - assuming that is correct.

Note: - generic solution; I've not attempted an lfs install. Gotta do that one day.

Solution for this thread

the source for this solution is

http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/pipe...ry/025606.html

to change the partition id use

Code:
 sfdisk --change-id /dev/hda 5 83
replace /dev/hda 5 with ur own partition in which lfs is installed...
83 stands for linux ext3 partition
