Question problem installing glibc

I'm having trouble installing glibc I keep getting this error.
gawk: scripts/gen-sorted.awk: line 19: regular expression compile failed (bad class -- [], [^] or [)
gawk: scripts/gen-sorted.awk: line 19: syntax error at or near ]
gawk: scripts/gen-sorted.awk: line 19: runaway regular expression /, "", subd ...
make[1]: *** [/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-build/sysd-sorted] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-2.5.1'
make: *** [all] Error 2
I'm not sure what's wrong, I think I might have the wrong version of gawk, but I can't tell because it always says:
gawk: not an option: --version
Can someone please help me.
