Try giving the full path to the gcc like "CC=/usr/bin/gcc".

Hi,

You don't tell where you are, so I assume that this is part of chapter 5.3 - Binutils-2.17 - Pass 1.

This: root:/home/binutils-build/binutils-2.17# CC="gc does not look correct.

The binutils package should be extracted in /whatever/sources. You will end up with: /whatever/sources/binutils-2.17.

Enter this directory and start with chapter 5.3 (first 2 commands are:
mkdir -v ../binutils-build
cd ../binutils-build

You should now be standing in /whatever/sources/binutils-build. The next command should be:

CC="gcc -B/usr/bin/" ../binutils-2.17/configure --prefix=/tools --disable-nls --disable-werror

Hope this helps.

Hi,

You are trying to do this in the lfs home directory, that's not correct. This should be done in the sources directory ($LFS/sources). Chapter 3.1 told you this.

Create $LFS/sources (if you haven't already). Copy all packages and patches into this directory.
CD into $LFS/sources.

From here you start working: unpack package, cd to package directory etc etc.

Hi,

Which error??

BTW: Are you still trying to do this as user root?? If so: That is not correct, you should do this as user lfs.
