Question problem in booting new kernel image

I have reconfigured the kernel 2.4.18 using make xconfig.
Without checking any options I have just saved the default configuration and exited.
when Iam trying to boot from the image created by this default configuration,
its stopping after giving the message:
kernel panic:I have no root I want to scream

please help me in booting with the new image.

Is the problem with the default configuration or anything else?

Is it right to just save the default configuration with changing any other options?

please help me!

Hi.
seems like u've made to many changes when configurring your kernel.
I suggest that you boot from floppy to your previous stable kernel (in case you've saved it and not just replaced with a new one...) and try to configure your new kernel from the beggining (more carefully).
