Permission denied when extracting gcc even if the user 'lfs' is the owner

Copy-pasted right from the terminal:
Code:
jddantes@jdhost> stat -c %U $LFS/sources ~
lfs
jddantes@jdhost> stat -c %A $LFS/sources ~

You are trying to extract as the user jddantes or lfs? You should be the lfs user when extracting.

Hmm...could be the gcc tarball belongs to another user
Paste output of
Code:
ls -l gcc.your.version.tar.bz2

Thanks. It was owned by the host. Got it working with
Code:
sudo chown -R lfs $LFS/sources
