"permission denied" in decompressing package

Hi
my issue is :
lfs@Ubuntu-32bit:/mnt/lfs1/sources$ tar -jxf binutils-2.22.tar.bz2
tar (child): binutils-2.22.tar.bz2: Cannot open: Permission denied
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
lfs@Ubuntu-32bit:/mnt/lfs1/sources$

when I download the packages, I copy them to mnt/lfs1/sources directory, then after all of packages have been downloaded, I run below command :
chown -R root:root /mnt/lfs1/sources/

Hi

Why did you do that????
The book sayes
Quote:
Grant lfs full access to $LFS/tools by making lfs the directory owner:
If a separate working directory was created as suggested, give user lfs ownership of this directory:
Quote:
chown -v lfs $LFS/sources

I do this chown command.
after "chown -R root:root /mnt/lfs1/sources/" command , I follow instruction and in section 4.3 I run "chown -v lfs $LFS/sources " command.

my other packages such as automak, autoconf, bash , linux are decompressed with tar command . I don't know why the binutiles has this problem(permission denied)? :-?!!!

Perhaps you run "chown -R root:root /mnt/lfs1/sources/" before binutils but after automak, autoconf, and bash. Or maybe you copied the file (binutils) there as root.

I think because when I downloading binutiles I stoped downloadin for few minutes and again resume it, downloaded package dosen't work properly. I delete binutiles from /sources dir and downloaded it again.
