Newbie question: Is it possible to install LFS 5.1.1 using Live CD?

I'm trying to install LFS 5.1.1 using a LiveCD (SUSE 9) as my main "starting" system. My thought being: "Wouldn't it be cool not having to swap disks around at the end?".

So far, I have been able to mount, partition, format, and copy the packages to the "final" actual drives.

I was following the tools section and have found that the symbolic link command does not work. I assuming because my root partition is an iso9660 type. Therefore, I can not link the "tools" directory to my root.

Is it possible to continue on without doing this? (I do not mind re-compiling the tools again at a later point.)

Should I give up trying to use a LiveCD as my starting system?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions,
Shawn

I did not try the Suse Live CD to install LFS, I did/do use the Knoppix Live cd (and it works).

The tools link is important. If you cannot create it, there's no point in continueing without it.

Don't know if you have the bandwith to download the Knoppix live cd (http://www.knoppix.net/get.php), but the combination Knoppix - LFS is a proven concept and well 'documented'.

You will hit 1 or 2 minor problems due to the use of the Knoppix Live cd.
The 'no more pty's' problem (chap 6, binutils 2.14) being one, but there are solutions for this problem (which can be found using your favorite searchengine).

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help!

Noppix allowed me to "ln -s" the tools directory.

FYI: While I was downloading Noppix, I tried a copy of Morphix that I already had and the "ln -s" to root did NOT work.
