I recently installed LFS 6.0 from the boot-CD that has been discussed on the dev mailinglist (I searched the archives). I know that a LFS newbie shouldn't try anything but stable, but I wanted to get the 2.6 kernel in my installation... Anyway, everything went great and the system is up and running.

When I wanted to play around with the network using ifconfig, I noticed that the package net-tools was never installed. It is installed in LFS 5.1.1, but not the 6.0 I used (downloaded ISO October 5). Is there a reson for this? Has the package been removed? If so, what is the replacement? Or did it simply not make the 6.0 beta I used?

Net tools was replaced with iproute2 as net tools seems to be unmaintained. Iproute2 doesn't have the ifconfig command but it should have an equivalent. I don't know what that is as I stayed with net tools. It wasn't causing me any problems so I thought, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I know, I should be cool, bleeding edge and all that but sometimes I can't be arsed.
You could read man ip to try and figure out how to use iproute2 or if you want net tools the instructions are in BLFS. This is the thread where they discussed the change to the book back in June http://linuxfromscratch.org/pipermai...ne/046960.html
