nALFS and permissions

I'm trying to install LFS using nALFS. As far as I can tell, I have set everything properly to send it off and running, but when the LFS profile gets to the the point where it first edits /home/lfs/.bashrc, it tells me that it doesn't have permission to open the temporary file. If I do this step manually and send it on its way again, I get the same message when it tries to patch binutils. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
