Ive got a few questions which ive had trouble getting clear answers to using google.
I have my HDD, (hda1,2) CD drives (hdc,hdd) and floppy all entered in fstab.

First the "easy" ones...

NTFS... Ive set support for this in the kernel but it still wont allow me to read my windows partition. It says unknown filesystem type.... ive set fstab to both auto and ntfs.

Seeing as my kernel "supports" ntfs is this site still a *must*?

My floppy drive wont mount because it says I need to specify the filesystem type. Ive just got fstab set as auto.

Cd rom.... It wont read audio cds. It apparently cant read the superblock?

My last issue is simply a preference but not really that important. Can I get linux to automatically detect where my partitions and cd rom drive etc are.
The best way I can explain this is by using knoppix as an example.
If I have hdc and hdd as cd roms drives knoppix picks up on this and adds the relevant icons onto the desktop. But if I turn my computer off, remove the drives and add a hard drive to hdc knoppix will again pick up on it and add a harddrive icon to the desktop. How does it do this?

Ive spent ages looking for answers but have failed everytime.

You don't mount audio CDs, you push play in a program or use something to rip them to MP3/OGG/FLAC/whatever.

Don't know about NTFS and I always used to have to specify a type with floppy disks.
