I am currently using Mepis 3.3.1 as a host to build LFS. I have not experienced any problems. I did have problems with Mepis 2004.06 but I think that was due to operator error.

Make sure the follow the LFS instructions to the letter. I hosed 2 different installs of Mepis because I wanted to do it my way. After doing it the LFS way, I am moving forward. I am not done with the build/installation (chapter 6) but again, no problems.

One of the niftiest features of Mepis is that when you download an ISO from their site, it has the ability to operate as either a bootable CD, or to be installed to a hard drive.
When you make an LFS based on Mepis, do you have that functionality? If not, does anyone know how to add that functionality to an LFS?

eimajenthat,

No, you do not have the functionality of Mepis when finishing LFS. Nothing from the host distro (AFAIK) goes to the LFS installation. I say installation because when it is first finished it is not a distro IMO. It is more because you can make it what you want from that point.

As for adding the functionality, check out the Beyond Linux from Scratch as well as all of the hints concerning LFS and BLFS. I am still in the process of building my LFS/BLFS installation and I have learned some very cool things along the way.
