Maybe I screwed it up?

Hello guys,

Yesterday I started installing an LFS 6.3 system with the LiveCD. But when I finished Chapter 5 my Laptop shutted down. I made a copy on a USB stick of the /tools folder. So, my question is:

Can I continue with chapter 6 right away or have I got to run some commands before?

Hi,

Did you finish installing all packages before your laptop shut down? If yes, then make sure that you have changed ownership to root as described in chapter 5.31. You might also strip your toolchain as described in chapter 5.30 but that is not really necessary. In fact, you should be careful when stripping your toolchain since this is where you could really screw it up. So unless you do not have severe disk space limitations I recommend to NOT strip the toolchain.

Hope this helps.

Your /tools directory is your toolbox. If you've
successfully completed Chapter 5, then your
toolbox is ready to start (or even restart) building Chapter 6.
In fact, your toolbox is quite portable. You can
proceed with building Chapter 6 on any other machine
that is similar to the one you built /tools on.

Thanks a lot for your replies guys.

I just have one more doubt about changing the ownership: before doing it I have to mount the partition that is used to build the LFS system and the swap partition, is that correct?

Thanks a lot again:)

Yes, that is correct.
