Oog, what a mess. And I had no idea about all of the vte versions needing to correspond to different gtk versions. Thank you everyone for all of the information.

In the end, I've decided against lxterminal.

The best one that everyone tells me about is Terminology, which runs on EFL. Supposedly is miles ahead of competitors.
