Question linux headers symlinks

hi, i tried to compile linux headers 2.6.13:
Code:
blackhole:/mnt/lfs/linux-2.6.13# make include/linux/version.h

Makefile:485: .config: No such file or directory
  CHK include/linux/version.h
  UPD include/linux/version.h
and then:
Code:
blackhole:/mnt/lfs/linux-2.6.13# make symlinks
Makefile:485: .config: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `symlinks'. Stop.
i don't understand where's the problem....

PS: sorry for bad english

The first problem ".config No such file.." means that you have not configured the options for compiling the kernel. to do this run "make menuconfig" from the command line.

The second one i have not seen tried before. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish but what that error message is saying is that there is not rule to make symlinks. for a list of available rules try "make --help".

As a general rule of thumb, to compile a new kernel >>
"make menuconfig; make bzImage; make install; make modules; make modules_install;" should do the job. There are far more advanced discussions on compiling kernels on LQ.org, just search for them

Why are you trying to install the raw kernel headers? We've been using the sanitised headers for more than a year http://ep09.pld-linux.org/~mmazur/linux-libc-headers/
What version of the book are you (not) following?
