Linux for Word-processing/Music Playing only? How fast will it boot? Tips?

I found out in college that a pretty good way to get a paper done is to get rid of all the temptations of the internet. The other night I booted into Slackware, but didn't start X, and managed to type out an entire paper in nano (of course, I had to format it in Open Office, so I will find a way to fix that later.)
My question is, if I created a LFS distro that included support for nothing but my monitor, my keyboard, maybe my mouse, basic hardware support (hard drives, etc) and my sound card (so I can listen to music), how fast would it be able to boot? Just a rough estimate? And would I be able to do it with LFS and can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thank you,

LFS will take a while. I'd use Puppy Linux, loaded completely into ram from a file on hard drive. You can even remaster it to rip out the parts you don't want, like the web browsers/internet stuff, to get a real bare bones fast beast.

Let know what you chose and how it worked out for you....

Just install Debian from CD, and tell the installer you don't want a network.

I don't think your objectives are realistic; it's so easy to get onto the net anyway. It's more a matter for you to discipline yourself.

LFS is by far the fastest booting Linux I've ever seen.
The instructions only include vim because a text editor is essential, I prefer nano myself, so I substitute it in the initial build with the instructions from BLFS.

As for a sound app, Mpg123 sounds like the sort of thing you might want. I've never tried console sound so I can't really recommend any players.

You're talking about a ~1GB OS with absolutely no bloat.
