LFS6.1 - 6.14 GCC installation, make check hangs

I've done everything according to the online book so far, and up to now i've had no major problems.

When I "make -k check" after "make"-ing the gcc-3.4.3 package it seems like the computer hangs, but it doesn't really.. First I figured it just takes a really long time so I left the computer running for the whole night. It had done no progress at all the next morning.

As I do not have a keyboard and monitor for the LFS computer, I am installing the system via SSH. I tried opening a new SSH connection and did a "top", and it showed a "expect" process hogging 99.5% of the proc.
Everything worked on the computer tho.. Webserver worked fine..

I don't really know what to do here.. The LFS website says nothing about this kind of problem and nobody seems to have had the same problem on this forum. Please help..

Oh BTW... the computer is a PIII-500MHz with 192MB ram and about 6 gigs of HD.

Do you compile with cflags? unset them first before you compile critical packages like gcc.

I am pretty sure I made sure that they were unset, but I will try recompiling the package anyway. Thanx.

Just figured out it was the HD of the host system that went belly up. Works just fine for a while, but after a while it won't respond at all.
Sorry about the really not linux related problem... :/
